Among William Spratling's most distinctive design decisions was his use of wood alongside silver — a pairing that was unconventional in fine jewelry of his era and remains a signature of the Taxco workshop today. Wood brought warmth to silver's cool precision, organic irregularity to geometric form, and a connection to the natural world that purely metallic objects cannot achieve. It was a choice that reflected Spratling's broader philosophy: that beauty comes from honest materials used with intelligence.
The Wood collection gathers pieces across jewelry and tableware in which wood plays a meaningful role. In necklaces, wooden accents punctuate silver link chains, creating a rhythm of contrasting materials. In cufflinks, wood provides a warm, tactile surface against the silver's polish. In the tableware collection, wooden handles on silver kettles serve both function — insulating the hand from heat — and form, grounding the precious metal in something earthly and warm.
The woods used are selected for their grain, their color, and their compatibility with the silver they accompany. Each piece is made to order in our Taxco workshop and arrives with a certificate of authenticity. For those who find beauty in contrast and meaning in material choice, this collection offers a distinctive entry into the Spratling world.
